1. Do I have to change banks?
No. In fact to have an account you must have a personal checking account with another institution. We then link your personal checking account to your Orange account. You can easily transfer funds from or to your Orange account without charge. Do transactions online at ingdirect.com, by using the Interactive Phone System or by calling an ING DIRECT associate. Funds generally move between your Orange account and your linked account within 2-3 business days.

2. How do you keep my info and account secure?
As an ING DIRECT Customer you can feel secure knowing that we are protecting you. Our security features are top notch and we continue to make enhancements as technology advances. Bottom line, your money and information are protected from the moment you open your account. Should your security ever be compromised we will always work to make things right. That’s the Orange Security Guarantee.  Additionally, ING DIRECT is a federally chartered bank insured by the FDIC. Deposits are insured by the FDIC for up to $100,000 per depositor. It’s important to remember that individually and jointly owned deposits are covered separately. So, if you have two accounts with us, one single and one joint, your maximum coverage amount is $200,000. Click for more information on FDIC Insurance. And don't forget, we are part of ING, one of the largest financial institutions in the world.

3. How often will I receive a statement?
You will automatically get a statement once a quarter. If there is activity on your account – in other words, a deposit or withdrawal - you’ll get a statement each month. Interest payments by themselves are not activity. Your statement will show all accounts that you have at ING DIRECT. We recommend Customers go ‘paperless’ by enrolling in electronic statements, or ‘eStatements’. eStatements are required for Electric Orange Customers. You can enroll in eStatements on the 'My Info' tab after logging in with your Customer Number and PIN. Customers enrolled in eStatements will receive an email notification explaining when and how you can view your eStatement on our secure website. We don’t send eStatements via email.

4. What is a "LINKED" account?
At ING DIRECT we create an electronic link between your existing checking account you use for your initial deposit and your ING DIRECT account(s). This electronic link makes it easy for you to transfer money whenever you want. You can link up to 3 non-ING DIRECT personal checking accounts. To make a deposit or withdrawal, simply initiate a transfer using our website, Interactive Phone Service, or by calling an ING DIRECT Associate. Learn more about 'linked' accounts.

5. How many and what type of accounts can I link?
You can have up to 3 linked checking accounts, including the personal checking account you used to open your ING DIRECT account.

The account you would like to link must be a personal checking account, not a brokerage, money market or savings account - institutions put restrictions on these types of accounts that prevent electronic transfers.

6. If I opened my account online how do I confirm my linked checking account?
To confirm ownership of your linked checking account:
  1. You must verify 2 small amounts (you may see one or two small deposits - each less than $1.00) that we will deposit into your checking account.
  2. Review the activity on your external checking account to determine the small amount(s) 2-4 business days after adding the link.
  3. Once you have the amount(s), login to ingdirect.com with your Customer Number and PIN and click on the ‘My Links’ icon. Select ‘Unconfirmed’ and enter the amount(s).
  4. Your link must be confirmed in order to transfer money from your ING DIRECT account.
Please Note: Your initial deposit into your ING DIRECT account is withdrawn from your linked checking account even if you have not verified the two small deposits.

If you open a joint account at ING DIRECT and state that both you and the joint account holder own the linked account, then both account holders must login to ingdirect.com with your individual Customer Number and login PIN and go to the ‘My Accounts’ tab then click on the My Links icon to enter the amount(s). If only one account holder is the owner of the linked account, that person only must login to ingdirect.com and enter the amount(s).

7. How do I get or change my login PIN?
You will set your login PIN when you open your account online. If you mail an application to open an Orange Savings or Orange CD account, one will be mailed to you shortly after opening your account. If you have not received one please call and a new one will be created and sent to you. If you have lost or forgotten your login PIN you can also call an ING DIRECT associate at 1-888-464-0727 anytime between 8AM and 8PM to request a new PIN be mailed. If you would like to change your already activated login PIN, simply make the change online by signing on to your account and clicking on the 'My Info' tab, or use the Interactive Phone System at 1-888-464-7868. A Sales Associate can also make the change for you. Just choose any 6 - 10 digit number that will be easy for you to remember. Click if you have more questions about your login PIN.

8. How do I login to view my account?
To log on to your account information you'll need the unique Customer Number that you received when you opened your account and your PIN and one additional piece of information. If you opened a joint account, both you and the joint account holder will have your own unique Customer Numbers. Although you share an account, which has one account number, you still each receive your own unique Customer Numbers. You will set up your PIN number when opening the account online or it will be mailed to you if you opened your account via mail. The second piece of information that is requested on the login page changes with each login attempt. This should be something personal that you already know, such as the year of your birth or part of your social security number. This added security measure ensures that your personal information is secure. After a number of unsuccessful login attempts your account will be locked and you will need to call an associate for assistance at 1-888-464-0727. Reminder: Make sure that you use your individual Customer Number when signing in.

9. Does ING DIRECT offer IRA, Business or living trust accounts?

In addition, we offer a Business Savings Account and Business CDs, both flexible saving options for many business types. 10. How do I create, cancel or modify an Automatic Savings Plan?
You can set up an Automatic Savings Plan (ASP) when you open your Orange Savings Account online. Or if you’ve already opened your account, simply login to your account and go to the ‘Transfer Money’ tab. There you will see how to start your plan today! To edit an ASP, go to the 'View my Account' section and click on the account where the ASP is set up. Click on the ASP you would like to edit listed under 'Scheduled Transactions'. To change the transaction start date or the transaction amount, click on the ‘Change’ link next to it and make your edit(s). Once completed, be sure to click the ‘Change’ button to confirm your changes.
